Issues with bulk import

Coming from deckbox I tried uploading an older version of my inventory. It started off well, mapping columns properly. It took a while to validate the file, which is expected, it’s not exactly tiny. There were thousands of valid lines, but also thousands of invalid lines. And here’s where the issues begin…

  • It only showed 5 lines per page. Hundreds of pages. Not particularly reasonable.

  • Many of the issues were with the edition (e.g. “Collector’s Edition” vs “Collectors’ Edition”). It would be nice if all such edition mismatches could be solved at once for each such mismatch rather than one-at-a-time.

    • In some cases (such as “Mythic Edition”) i fixed the edition issue in the CSV, only to have it still fail.

  • Many of the issues were wrong collector number, but matched a unique card (e.g. Pyramids in Arabian Nights). Being able to pick up the correct card when there’s only a single match would be very convenient (maybe a checkbox to ignore collector number mismatches?)

    • I understand cases where there are multiple cards (such as Secret Lair), but when the card is unique this seems solvable programmatically.

  • Sometimes the card wasn’t found at all (e.g. Mana Crypt from The List). I was later able to add this card individually just fine. No idea why it didn’t show up when attempting to validate the import.

  • Some cases the card was found but fixing it made it invalid

    • I’ve got a french foreign black border card. When i fixed the edition it went from french (as marked in the CSV) to spanish. Okay, maybe you use a different edition, but if french isn’t a valid language for that edition, please don’t change the language. IMHO (i could be wrong), keep it marked as invalid and keep the marked language. This will at least clue me in that i need to look for a different edition to record it accurately.

  • Attempting to correct any of these invalid lines took multiple clicks, then the page had to think for multiple seconds before finally allowing me control to do more. I only got through a few pages before I just gave up.

  • I tried to import what was valid (plus the few invalid entries i had corrected), and after waiting for a bit… nothing. Went back to the valid/invalid screen and zero items were imported. This is why this post is listed as a bug report.

I added a few cards via individual searching and filtering, and that was okay. But i’m not going to re-add my entire collection that way. I understand this is a beta. For people with moderately sized collections that they’re already tracking it may be a bit difficult to switch over. At least, that was my experience.

Separate feedback: please SAML federate the support site to the primary site so that people don’t have to create a second separate account just to get support.
